This building and its geometry were intended to deal with several different challenges brought forth by the geometry of the site and consequently the courtyard created by the placement of the apartment buildings. So, the design objectives were to create a building with enough character and presence to work as a focal point and to allow for the open space to pivot around the building in a manner that would afford the project two compartmentalized outdoor spaces that would offer different active and passive activities in each open spaces.
The clubhouse was therefore place in the middle, connected to the apartment buildings on both sides by using colonnades and external vestibules that would force a sense of pause for someone going from one side to the other and experiencing the primary function of one space from one side is transitioning to the function on the other side, a visual and a mental transformation experience.
